Alanna Shuman, PMHNP, CPNP, is a dual-certified nurse practitioner, specializing in both psychiatric mental health and in pediatrics. She is also a certified pediatric mental health specialist, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to her practice.
Alanna earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from MGH Institute of Health Professionals. Further honing her expertise, she completed a child-mental health fellowship at the Ohio State University. She then pursued and achieved a post-master’s certificate in Nursing at Regis College, which brought her the dual-certification.
Before joining ICCD, Alanna dedicated six years as the sole primary care NP at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA. In this role, she provided comprehensive medical care and treatment to students, addressing both acute and chronic conditions. She was also the primary provider for the mental health needs of the students, caring for children from 5th to 12th grade. Her specialization includes managing conditions such as anxiety, panic disorder, depression, ADHD, suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-harm, and eating disorders.
Working in a school-based health center, Alanna developed a deep understanding of the critical role of collaboration between healthcare providers and educational institutions. She is adept at partnering with school personnel to create a supportive environment that enhances the overall well-being and academic success of students. Her approach is holistic, ensuring that each child receives tailored care that addresses their physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
In her free time, Alanna enjoys going for walks with her rescue dog, Bambi, and cherishing moments with her family on the Cape.
