Dr. Pitta earned her Educational Doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Liberty University and her Master’s in Special Education from Troy State University. She is a certified Massachusetts Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities with Autism and SEI endorsements. Dr. Pitta is a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst and Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst. She is also a parent of a child with autism spectrum disorder. For 23 years, Dr. Pitta has taught students with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and medical disabilities in both public and private schools. She has experience in evidence-based instructional techniques, and the development of Individualized Education Programs, positive behavior support plans, classroom programming , data collection systems, progress monitoring, assessment, and staff training. In addition, as part of her educational programming, Dr. Pitta has developed and implemented a parent education program for students with severe disabilities through individual and group parent training sessions.
As a special education specialist and educational consultant with ICCD, Dr. Pitta works with families by conducting school observations, consults as a member of multi-disciplinary teams, offers training to public school special education teachers, and provides consultation to families to support their needs at home.
In addition to her work at the ICCD, Dr. Pitta is an adjunct professor in Special Education at Bridgewater State University.
